White Clouds & Gunfire Q&A

1. Introduce yourself with your name and what you do in the band.

My name is Rob and I play bass and sing back vocals for White Clouds & Gunfire.

2. Where did the band name White Clouds & Gunfire come from?

The band name comes from one of our favourite broadway musicals “South Pacific.” It is set in a time of war and one of the main characters confuses the smoke from the all the gunfire for clouds on the horizon.

We feel it sums up our sound pretty well too. The music is quite rocky and driven (Gunfire) and our vocal melodies and harmonies are soft and infectious (Clouds).

3. What was your vision for your album, “For All The Non Believers,”

and did you achieve it?

We wanted to write an album that was fun and gave people an insight into our little world. The music we write comes from our personal experiences in life so putting our music out to the public was about putting a piece of ourselves out there too. We love what we do and we hope that others out there enjoy it just as much.

We have had some really positive feedback from the first record, along with a lot of constructive feedback as well. We are looking forward to taking away everything we have learnt from this experience and making an even better second record.

4. What do you hope fans will take away from this album?

Honestly we just want people to enjoy the music we write. We certainly enjoy making it so if other people can take something away from it then thats great. If they don’t, that is ok too. Everyone has their own perception of music and its great to hear what people think of the content we have released, whether they love it or hate it!

5. When starting the band, did you have a specific direction you

wanted your music to go in? Has it changed at all?

When we first put the band together we had all come from other projects. We just wanted to make music in a fun environment and see what happened. We all have a very different taste in music and I think when you combine those tastes you get an interesting mix to work with.

The sound has changed slightly over the years but that is only natural as we get older and more experienced. I don’t think we ever sat down and said “this is the direction we want to go,” we just write music that we enjoy playing.

6. As far as warming up before a show, what helps you best before you take the stage?

Everyone kind of does their own thing before a show. We spend so much time together on the road in a van, in the studio or just hanging out that the few minutes before we go on everyone likes to take a bit of their own time too prepare for the energetic show that we always try our best to put on.

7. What is one thing you’ve always wanted to have happen at one of your shows?

We have had a good number of cool things happen at our shows, from human pyramids to giant inflatables being thrown around the crowd, but for me I’ve always wanted to crowd surf across the audience whilst playing my bass.

8. What do you find to be the hardest part about being on tour?

I think one of the hardest parts of touring is keeping yourself entertained. The days are incredibly long and for the most part you’re just sitting around waiting for your stage time to go on and play 30-60 mins of music.

We are very lucky that the 5 of us are best friends so we don’t really argue when we are on tour. Sometimes though, when you have been with each other for every hour of the day it can get to a point where you would just love 30 mins of alone time. It’s always fine though, if someone gets a bit down it usually only takes a couple of minutes before one of the group has done something to pick the mood back up again. It’s almost impossible not to be laughing when we are together.

9. Have you toured in the US before? What’s your fan base like there?

If you haven’t toured in the US before, are you planning on coming

over here to do a tour?

We have never toured in the US as of yet but it is definitely something we would love to do. We have had a fair bit of exposure overseas with our social channels and lots of people message us asking whether we are planning a US tour anytime soon.

For now all I can say is there is nothing booked currently but it is something we are very interested in doing at some point in the future.

10. Is there anything else you’d like to say?

Hmmmm, well thank you for chatting with us, its been fun! We have a new single called “Since You Were Gone” that came out two weeks ago. If anyone wants to get a little glimpse into our world then check it out –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnhQC2KwfXk
