Quincy Mumford & The Reason Why “It’s Only Change” Review

New Jersey based sextet, Quincy Mumford & The Reason Why, have relentlessly offered up their sounds of rock, R&B, soul, funk, and jazz to the music world in the form of 3 studio albums and 1 live album. However, it’s the release of their latest endeavor that seems to take the cake. Its Only Change is the bands latest studio album, released July 30th, and it has everything one would want to hear from singer/songwriter Quincy Mumford.

With his soulful voice mixing with sounds of jazz, R&B, and rock, every song is as refreshing as the previous. The opening track, “Change”, reveals a story of the changes that occur throughout life, assuring listeners that everything happens for a reason and to embrace change with open arms. “Under The Covers” and “A Hard Place” both exhibit upbeat drum beats and glimmering pieces of jazzy reggae, which captures the audience’s attention and keeps them wanting more.

“Time Won’t Wait”, slows things down a bit and combines beautiful guitar work and jazz music with the soulful voice of Quincy Mumford, who adds a little hip hop to the mix as well. All the while, it tells the story of a person trying to find their way in the world. The next two tracks, “Eventually” and “Madeline”, complement each other perfectly, with the soothing tones of Quincy Mumford’s voice followed by tranquilizing drum beats and strumming guitars. The album comes to an end with “Baby Don’t Go”, which maintains a slow pace, but doesn’t leave the audience hanging.  As the song nears to a finish one wants nothing but to sway to the sounds of the musical instruments and sing along with Quincy Mumford’s beautiful voice.

Quincy Mumford & The Reason Why is absolutely a band worth checking out. They bring something to the musical world that is both special and inspiring.
