Ice Nine Kills “The Predator” EP Review

Ice Nine Kills is a 5-piece metalcore band from Boston, Massachusetts. They are Spencer (vocals and screams), JD (guitar and screams), Conor (drums), Justin (guitar) and Steve (bass and vocals). Their musical influences are Underoath, As I Lay Dying, Lamb Of God and Senses Fail. They have released a self-financed full length album called Safe Is Just A Shadow in 2010 and have just recently released an EP called The Predator. The vocalist Spencer claims to be very ecstatic about the sales they have been making on the EP so far, which was more than 1.4K in the first week. He says, “Our incredibly loyal fans continue to impress us in every way possible. From literally funding this recording to landing us on the charts, they have yet to let us down. We cannot thank them enough for their unwavering support.” Ice Nine Kills has been taking the metalcore scene by storm with their new music.
Ice Nine Kills’ new EP has been rated #9 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and #38 on the Independent Label Chart. The Predator is available to purchase through MerchNow digitally and was funded by Kickstarter (fan based donating system to help different causes/campaigns). It had more than $21,000 raised which was more than half of their initial goal. Soon after, The Predator was #15 on the iTunes rock chart and was Revolver Magazine’s “album of the week.” The Predator contains 5 full length songs:
1. The Coffin Is Moving
2. Father’s Day
3. What I Never Learned In Study Hall (Feat. Tyler Carter of Issues)
4. A Reptile’s Dysfunction
5. Someone Like You (Adele cover)
Overall, Ice Nine Kills’ The Predator is a very well rounded, great sounding and creative EP. I would recommend listening to “A Reptile’s Dysfunction” and “The Coffin Is Moving”. The lyrics in the EP are nothing short of brilliant and vein. Take these lyrics for example: “You’ve played the part of a senseless victim; long enough to bear the burden of hate. Now nothing but a martyr; a plague that leaves you frail and writhing.” — A Reptile’s Dysfunction. They have pretty much outdone themselves with this one, and not only that, but their fans helped them throughout. With their dedication, Ice Nine Kills was able to do what they love doing most, making music.
