1. Introduce yourself and tell us a fun fact about you.
Hey guys! I’m Amanda Markley and before I began making music I actually rode horses and competed nationally. I also have been a musical theatre drama kid, and I even choreographed a musical!
2. When did you begin making music and how was your interest in music first sparked?
I began writing music when I was 16, but my interest in music has been a strong light in my life since I was really young.
3. Where do you draw inspiration from and which artists have had the most influence on your writing?
I listen to many types of music and I try to draw little bits of inspiration from every genre I hear, including folk, pop, rock, alternative, and I even listen to rap and some metal. The artists who have had the most influence on my writing would be Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, The Civil Wars, and Of Monsters And Men.
4. Is there anything specific you do before a show?
I don’t have any special rituals yet that I do before shows, but I always have to get food after sound check before performing! Pizza is definitely a favorite.
5. If you were to headline a tour, which artists would you like to open for you?
It’s so fun for me to dream about what bands I would want to play with if I went on tour, and I always seem to dream big. I would, of course, want to play with some of my favorite artists such as Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters And Men, The Tallest Man On Earth, and The Civil Wars.
6. What has been the most difficult obstacle for you to overcome and how did you do it?
The most difficult obstacle for me to overcome in my life was when my horseback riding career ended due to stress fractures in my back. Having to quit doing the one thing I was most passionate about in my life was the hardest challenge I have faced, and I went through a time of depression and sadness. I overcame this obstacle by finding my voice through music. I grew up in a very musical family and it has always been a passion for me, but songwriting gave me a new outlet for my emotion and passion, and showed me that there isn’t just one thing I can do for the rest of my life.
The biggest obstacle in my music career has been overcoming my shyness. Growing up, I was very shy and wouldn’t even make eye contact with people. Getting into the music industry and local scene has opened so many opportunities for me to meet some awesome people and really come out of my shell and be able to open up to people.
7. If you could have anything happen at one of your shows, what would you want it to be?
I always want the audience to have a great time at a show, but if I could have anything happen at a show, it’s just to connect and inspire people with my music and lyrics.
8. What do yo have planned for the future?
Right now I’m writing new music that I’m really excited about and I’m hoping to start to work on my next EP this summer. I also have been thinking about a couple summer tours in the near future!
